Paul Asaro Trio

BACK

Paul Scavarda, Paul Asaro, Scott Black
In 2000 I formed a touring trio for Allied Concert Services.
This combination worked great musically and as an easy traveling unit (no bass or drums).
We toured for two seasons and made two live recordings.

Scott Black, Craig Ventresco, Paul Asaro
In 2006 I was able to get the trio back together again, this time with the incredible
Craig Ventresco on guitar replacing Paul Scavarda who was playing an extended job in Japan.

Short bios...

Bringing forth images of Blind Blake, Lemon Jefferson and other street performers, guitarist Craig Ventresco formed the well known Bay Area group "Bo Grumpus" in the late 1980s, was prominently featured in the soundtracks of the films "Crumb" and "Ghost World", and has recorded several CDs under his own name as a soloist.

Cornetist Scott Black played alongside and was good friends with such jazz immortals as Eddie Condon, Jimmy McPartland and Roy Eldridge while an up and coming horn man in New York City. Scott toured and recorded with Leon Redbone for 24 years, served as bandleader aboard the Delta Queen Steamboat and spent 10 years in New Orleans playing with just about everybody. He is also one of the world's leading experts on the life of legendary cornetist Bix Beiderbecke.

Paul Asaro is recognized internationally as one of the leading exponents of the Stride piano style as well as ragtime and the classic jazz of Jelly Roll Morton. He tours regularly with the legendary Leon Redbone, as a soloist and with his trio. He is currently based in Champaign.

2000 tour: we come across a field of classic cars somewhere in the Dakotas.
We had to stop...
